WCS Relocates Sixth Graders For Next Year

Next year’s sixth grade class at Waterville Central School District will move up to the Junior-Senior High School a year early.
This year’s fifth graders will follow this year’s sixth graders in making the transition to the secondary school to accommodate the schedule needed for installing air conditioning at Memorial Park School.
That will leave three classrooms empty to provide a rotation for other classes to shift around the building as the project requires.
WCS Superintendent Zach Abbe told about 15 people at a meeting on the topic last week that the move will also serve as a way to see if putting sixth grade back at the secondary school should be permanent.
This year’s fifth grade has 65 students, while the sixth grade has 45.
Both will have orientation and visits to the building before classes begin in September.
Abbe said the installation of air conditioning requires workers to have access to four to six classrooms at a time during the day.
Rotations of classrooms will follow every three to six weeks as the work progresses.
