WCS Prepares To Open

Work on Waterville Central School’s construction project moved along over the summer to be ready for this week’s Opening Day of school.

In a short (6 minutes) meeting last week, the WCS Board of Education approved some staffing changes before heading into a workshop.

Rebecca Hoage and Rachel Symonds were hired as teaching assistants.

Kane Patterson was hired as a modified football coach.

The resignations of teaching assistants Lacey Broedel and Cobey Lloyd, along with School Nurse Wendy Divine and Modified Football Coach Anthony Rocco were accepted.

WCS Superintendent Zach Abbe said work on the buildings and grounds progressed enough over the Summer to be in good shape for the opening.

Teachers started last week to prepare their classrooms.

The Junior-Senior High gymnasium floor has been finished.

At Memorial Park, contractors finished work in some classrooms to allow for the room rotation planned as air conditioning is added.

Board President Steve Stanton said the grass sports fields grounds at the Junior- Senior High are in the best shape he’s seen.

Waterville will use two grass soccer fields this season along with the turf field.

Students begin the year Thursday and Friday and return after Labor Day.
