WCS New Project Work Moving Along

The latest Capital Project by the Waterville Central School District is making progress in a number of areas.
WCS Superintendent Zach Abbe told the Board of Education last week that all efforts are being made to get as much work done before school begins Sept. 3.
The gym floor at the Junior-Senior High School has required a lot of work, Abbe said, but is vastly improved.
The student drop- off/pickup area at Memorial Park School has been redesigned to minimize congestion.
Abbe said it is a tight time crunch to have that completely done by Opening Day.
Crews are also working on fixing the drainage to the natural grass fields behind the Junior-Senior High.
That has meant a relocation for Waterville Pop Warner practices to the Firemen’s Little League Field.
Games, Abbe said, will still be played on the turf field at the Junior-Senior High.
MPS, which is having air conditioning added along with other upgrades, will see disruption this year.
Classrooms will have to shift around as work continues throughout the year.
“The more work we can have done now,’’ Abbe said, “the less disruptive it will be when school starts.’’
Classroom turnover will be staggered.
The first six classrooms will be done by Opening Day. As the next sets get done, classes will relocate.
To help lessen the impact, this year’s sixth grade will move to the Junior-Senior High.
Teachers have been great in both buildings, he said, as a lot of the timetable remains unknown.
