While the 2023-24 budget for the Village of Waterville has increased, the tax rate did not.
Village Board members approved the $2.24 million budget, including for water and sewer expenses, last week, including taking $351,511 out of fund balance savings to offset the shortage in predicted revenues. Mayor Gene Ostrander said the budget contains funds to get a lot done this year.
Budgeted is $377,457 for street maintenance. Hospital and medical insurance is at $169,433 and street maintenance salaries at $216,000.
Waterville received a grant from Oneida County to address flooding along Big Creek; the village has budgeted its share to cover 25 percent of the cost. Work will start at the creek near Stewart’s Shops and follow the stream toward the Wastewater Treatment Plant, addressing several areas. Work will also include removing an old dam that powered a former saw mill.
