Warren Cemetery Part Of Town Of Columbia

The Town of Columbia became owners of the Warren Cemetery. The cemetery had been part of private property on Eberline Road.

Bank of America discovered that the trust established for the cemetery should be deeded to the town.

At last week’s Columbia Town Board meeting, Supervisor Nathan Seamon and Attorney Christopher Bray said the town also received the $2,700 from the trust established about 90 years ago.

Bray represented the Town in court, where the will of one of those who established a trust acted as the deed.

Bray updated the deed, sent it to Bank of America, which approved the boundaries.

Although the cemetery is within private property, state law says the town had to accept it as abandoned.

An access road exists for the town to enter the cemetery for maintenance. Also during the 90-minute meeting, the Board adopted the updated Comprehensive Plan.

The Planning Board spent almost three years reworking the document. Councilman Bruce Learned said he had been involved in the last two versions of the Comprehensive Plan.

He thanked those who did the recent update, saying they had taken care of areas that needed addressing.

Highway Superintendent Mark Buddle said the recent Trash Day had 121 residents bring stuff to the dumpsters.

Buddle said that was a high number for the Fall event, which also takes place in the Spring.

Councilman Jim Cotton, who helped out at the site that day, said people appreciate the opportunity twice a year to have Trash Day.

Codes Officer Ray Donley said so far this year, 25 building permits have been issued.

Most are for garages and sheds. He directed a request for a new cell phone tower on Jordanville Road to the Planning Board as is outlined in the town’s process.

Another cell phone tower on Route 28 has to renew the Special Use Permit, which expired in July.

Donley said so far his attempts to contact the company have not met with a response.

The Golden Horseshoe Trailer Park has a new manager who is doing a good bit of work to take care of violations, Donley said.

Several vehicles and tires have been removed from the area. ...
