When the hurricanes battered places in the South, Robin Fitch thought about how much people would need.
Fitch, of West Winfield, works as the cook for the West Winfield VFW Post 2338.
She loves it, she said, because she’s been allowed to be creative with the menu.
For example, she’s developed 10 kinds of burgers, five types of chicken sandwiches and expanded the appetizers.
So when it came to thinking of how to help hurricane victims, Fitch let her imagination think big.
It’s resulted in an event this Saturday, Nov. 2 at the VFW Post called Veterans Helping Veterans. It begins at 2 p.m.
“God was tugging on my heart to help,’’ Fitch said.
The target area will be smaller towns, starting in Tennessee, that might have been overlooked as Hurricanes Helene and then Milton swamped areas in the South.
The event will include basket raffles and raffles for big-ticket items.
The goal, Fitch said, is to raise $40,000.
To reach that, she enlisted the help of other nearby VFW and American Legion Posts.
“If we can help some people rebuild, that’s a success,’’ Fitch said.
Saturday’s party at the VFW will include music and of course, food for sale. ...
