Utility rates will increase in the Village of Oriskany Falls to cover costs.
At last week’s Oriskany Falls Village Board meeting, the Board approved the changes after a public hearing.
The increase covers sanitation, sewer and water services.
Rates will go from $35 to $42 a unit for sanitation, which is under contract with Scully Sanitation. The last increase was in 2008.
Water rates will go from $35 to $40 for users in the village and $47 to $59 for those outside the village. The last increase was a year ago.
Sewer rates go from $130 to $140 per unit.
Mayor Colin Idzi reported on his meeting with the commissioners of the Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
Much of their discussion, Idzi said, concerned how to replace an aging fire truck.
The truck, around 35 years old, is owned by the village.
While the cab and chassis are in bad shape, the body is still usable.
The truck is the one in the Knoxboro fire station.
Commissioners recommended placing the truck’s body on a new chassis at a cost of about $300,000.
That will save about half a million dollars compared to purchasing an entirely new vehicle.
Board members will have the truck inspected by a third party to get a better idea of its overall condition and capability to spend 20 or so years on a new chassis.
The Board approved buying a new generator.
Discussion took place on when and how to display the Hometown Heroes banners. Board members decided that all banners will be put up before Memorial Day and stay up until after Veterans Day.
Banners will be placed as close as possible to where families requested them.
Max Sykes has been appointed Village Historian.
An early payment on the Broad Street loan will save the village $1,300 in interest.
Board members approved having village employees log their time and submit it daily rather than weekly.
Quotes were reviewed for work at Douglass Park.
Rashford Masonry was approved for the sidewalks.
Sittsys Sealing and Paving was approved for the parking lot.
The new fountain has arrived and will be installed soon.
