Update Given On Renovated Fire Truck

At their July meeting, members of the Oriskany Falls Village Board saw photos of the progress on renovating a fire truck.

Oriskany Falls Fire Department Commissioner Dale Petrie and other members of the department recently visited the company that is putting a new chassis on the body of the truck.

Doing so is considerably less expensive than buying a new truck.

Petrie showed a photo with the new chassis on the truck, placed for measurements.

He also showed photos of the corrosion and splits in the frame that required the truck be fixed.

Petrie also discussed a renovation issue that was noticed after the specs and contract were done.

He said it’s not determined if there will be an additional cost to work around the area.

An application for new Fire Department member Jennifer Sandleben was approved.

Board members also approved a Municipal Firefighting Training memorandum for a member of the department to attend firefighter training classes Mondays through Thursdays for several weeks.

Two bids were received for the village’s sale of land near the reservoir.

One was for $29,100 and the other for $36,650.

Board members approved the price of the higher bid and will have the sale contract drawn up by attorneys for both parties.

Codes Officer Gary Schreppel discussed violations he sent to homeowners in violation of tall grass and weeds.

A situation with a person living in a camper in the Village has ended, he said, as the camper has been moved.

Board members discussed the consequences of residents who violate the grass, brush, weeds and lawn regulations.

A new ordinance was adopted in December that prohibits lawns from growing grass and weeds over 6 inches.

The ordinance also allows the Village to hire someone to mow the lawn and have the cost be charged to the homeowner.

Fines are also an option from $250 to $1,500 a day.
