Two local restaurants are among the 10 in New York state in the hunt to be named No. 1 in the Best Burger Competition.

The New York Beef Council unveiled the Top 10 finalists in the 9th Annual Best NY Burger Competition.

After the nomination and voting process, these restaurants have risen to the top, showcasing New York’s finest beef burgers and culinary creativity.

Wendy’s Diner in Cassville and The Matteson Hotel in Cedarville received enough votes to make the Top 10.

Their competition is Ale & Angus, Syracuse; Ben’s Fresh, Port Jervis; Brewer Union, Brewerton; Butchers & Sons, Corning; Get Smashed, Syracuse; R&M, Corning; Roosters, Utica and Tap It Bar and Grill, Rochester.

Making the Top 10 came from voting by the public.

“These finalists represent the very best in burger craftsmanship across New York,” said Chrissy Claudio, Director of Consumer Engagement at the NYBC. “Their dedication to sourcing quality beef, perfecting their recipes, and delivering incredible dining experiences is truly commendable.”

The final phase of the competition is underway.

A panel of anonymous judges will visit each finalist to evaluate their burgers based on taste, presentation, and proper doneness.

Their scores will determine the ultimate 2025 Best NY Burger, with the winner announced May 12 at the State Capitol during the May Beef Month Proclamation.
