Trustee Vacancy Filled For Village

The Village of Waterville has a new trustee on the Village Board.


Kayleigh Conners filled the vacancy created at the end of November when Alex Hilley resigned.


Hilley, who had not attended the last several Board meetings, was in his first term.


Conners was appointed through March and will need to run for the seat then. She said she plans to do so.


Dan Nichols, a member of the Parade of Lights committee, submitted plans for the 2026 event.


It will be the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, as the event nears its 40th year.


DPW Superintendent Jamie Bechy said one application was received for the part-time position open in the department.


Board members approved hiring Douglas Weaver.


Bechy said a tractor trailer accident the Friday after Thanksgiving could have been much worse.


The driver lost control coming around the Village Park north on Route 12B and lost control.


The truck hit the light pole, tree and guard rail after the Belfield Insurance Building.


Bechy said the guard rail saved the truck from dropping down into the creek.


Waterville Fire Department will apply for a grant to buy extra pumps and generators to use in big storms.


Codes Officer Ben Bialek said he’s continuing to work on permits for the Stafford Avenue property in violation.
