Tree Planting At Big Creek

Next week, 250 trees will be planted in Waterville along big Creek.


The project by the state seeks volunteers to help Saturday, Sept. 13.

DPW Superintendent Jamie Bechy said the plantings are part of the Big Creek improvement project to lessen the dangers of the creek flooding.


SUNY Morrisville students are volunteering the day before to dig holes and set up the planting work.


The former dam on the creek, in the village off Route 315, will be removed once permits have been approved.


Bechy said some of the rocks used for the dam might be reused in other areas of the creek.


The former dam at the reservoir on Upper White Street needs to be decommissioned.


Bechy said it’s been in disrepair since the 2019 Halloween storm.
