As I write this, one week remains in March; the emergence of Spring tantalizes us with occasional bursts of sunny promise, and I now cautiously believe that winter will finally retreat to wherever it goes, a location I would prefer not to know.
For the past three years, March has been quite the adversary, laying me low with a serious shoulder operation, precipitated by a frightening fall, caused by a neighborhood dog, unleashed and charging.
The result: no golf season for me and an arduous PT regimen, which I actually came to love, surprisingly, the entire experience teaching me a great deal, as difficult and undesired experiences often do.
The next year, I was recovering from a cardiac ablation, after numerous ER visits, with the hope of going to Scotland to play the Old Course in St Andrews, if all went well.
Fortunately, I made it there in May 2024, and ecstatically walked those old, old links, and even older streets, feeling healthy again for the first time in two years.
And last year, after a trip to NYC, and after being so very, very careful for five years, Covid struck me, not a particularly bad case and I did see Audra McDonald perform a heart-wrenching Mama Rose in Gypsy, but still, it made for rather wretched March and early April for sure.
