SWOCO Meeting

Wayne Randall, a geologist at C&S Engineers, gives an update to representatives of area municipalities on the status of the Southwest Oneida County Landfill in Knoxboro. The landfill, which opened in 1973 and was closed in 1986, qualifies for other uses in a couple of years, such as a solar panel farm, if the land continues to pass its annual inspection. While in operation, six towns - Augusta, Sangerfield, Kirkland, Marshall, Vernon and Verona - and three villages - Clinton, Waterville, Oriskany Falls - sent their waste to the site. Randall said of all the closed landfills he has seen, the Knoxboro one is by far in the best condition.
