The Town of Columbia monthly Town Board meeting was March 12 in the town hall.
Supervisor Nathan Seamon called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Councilmember Ed Reed gave the invocation prayer.
Town Clerk Eric Gloo’s monthly financial report for the period ending February 28 was presented.
Fees were collected in February for certified marriage license copies, dog licenses, building permits and zoning applications. A check for $2,853.40 was given to the Supervisor.
Highway Superintendent Justin Davis discussed the following:
• The new 2025 Western Star truck should be here by the end of March or early April.
• The reversible plow taken off the 2018 truck is listed on Auctions International.
• The Town has met its salt quota of 900 tons for this year’s contract. Davis is working on finding a deal on sand to rebuild the sand pile.
•All the Highway Department employees are interested in switching from the current Cintas uniforms to an allowance to buy their own pants, boots and a hoodie/jacket. There was discussion as to the procedure and whether there is a Cintas contract.
• The broom for the Volvo loader is not covered by CHIPS (Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program). This project is on hold.
• The first round of cold patching potholes is complete.
• There is a long crack in the Osley Road pavement. Suit- Kote will repair at no cost to the Town.
• Oiling and stoning the roads that have been paved and fog sealed over the last two years is on the schedule, possibly in May. This includes Prey Hill Road (0.3 miles), Hoffman Road (0.3 miles), Osley Road (0.5 miles), and Dugan Road (1.2 miles). This should all be covered by CHIPS. The estimated oil and stone cost is $15,000 per mile.
• Quotes are being sought for cold pave and hot pave on Brennan Road. This is for the lower part of Brennan Road, from Brewer Road up to the top of the hill, approximately 0.3 miles. This section of the road is very soft, and the plow must be careful not to dig in.
• Seckner Road has also become very soft, but hopefully ...
