A court ruling determined that the full responsibility of addressing the sinkhole in front of Schoolhouse Apartments in Waterville belongs to the owners of the property.
Village of Waterville Board members learned at their meeting last week that at some point the litigation between the state Department of Transportation and Housing Management Resources, which owns Schoolhouse Apartments, had been settled.
The matter stems from the 2019 Halloween flood that forced creek water through the pipes under Route 12/Stafford Avenue where a collapse of the ground in front of Schoolhouse happened.
The hole is about 30 feet deep and about 15 feet wide.
Four years after it opened, the hole remains. A fence has been put around it.
