With both teams playing in the Section Three Class C winter volleyball championship undefeated for the last two seasons, one would continue to say that and one would not.
After four exciting sets in what was called the premiere matchup of a day of sectional volleyball titles at Jamesville-Dewitt High School, top-seeded Tully topped second-seed Mount Markham 3-1 to win the sectional banner. Mount Markham finishes the season 17-1, having run off an impressive streak of 48 set wins coming into the game.
In the first set the Mustangs took a quick lead, 4-2, after an ace by Chloe Poland. Tully tied it and the Mustangs went up on a return by Trinity Bailey.
In the next volley, Mt. Markham’s Abbie Ainslie had an insane save of an out of bounds ball for a point. She followed that with a serve for point and 7-4 lead.
Scoring went back and forth, with a block by Lauren Jones tying it at 9-all. Bailey took over serving and Mt. Markham went up 13-9.
Kestrel Zimpel blocked a Tully return to put the Mustangs up 15-11…
