Sangerfield Applies For Housing Repair Grant

Thoma Development talked to the Sangerfield Town Board last month about grants available to improve housing.


The Town is applying for the housing grant that can provide between $500,000 and $750,000.


Thoma submitted the grant at the end of July and if approved the State would award the Grant in December.


Dan Ellis of Thoma answered several questions from Board members and also the public.


All homeowners in the town will be sent out income surveys to assist with the process.


If the grant is approved Thoma will assist homeowners with their applications.


Homeowners will have to submit three quotes for repairs and also meet income guidelines to be approved for repairs.


Income guidelines are: A family of 1 - $49,250; Family of 2 - $56,250; Family of 3 - $63,300; Family of 4 -$70,300 and it goes up from there.


The home must be deemed substandard, such as it needs windows, doors, roof, new heating, handicap access etc.


If Sangerfield is not approved for the grant the Town can reapply.


If approved this year the Town can apply again every two to three years.
