Road To Hell Provides Emotional Trip

Before we can talk about what the Waterville musical Hadestown was, let’s get out of the way what it wasn’t.


It was not your classic feel-good singing and dancing musical. It doesn’t have a happy ending.*


No color costumes or scenery brighten the stage.


The storyline allows no two-hour respite from the woes of the world going on around us.


Betrayal and weakness stand out as character tributes.


Billed as a story about Greek gods, it was more rooted in real human behaviors than mythical situations.


So, just what did Waterville’s performance of Hadestown amount to for three productions?


A musical that not just made you think, but affected your emotions to the core.


A beautiful reminder that while the world can be tough, and at times impossible, to navigate, hope gives us a reason to rise and try again.
