Richfield Hears Tax Proposal From County

At a recent Richfield Town Board meeting, the members heard a proposal for Otsego County to handle tax collection.


At the May meeting, Otsego County Treasurer Allen Ruffles went over the proposal for the County Treasurer’s Office to handle town and county tax collection for Richfield.


He outlined the cost benefits for the Town.


Richfield has until October to decide.


Town Clerk Maggie Patrick reported $1,494,611.60 total 2025 taxes collected, $3,785.64 total penalty collected, $97 total second notice fees collected

and $311,442.77 outstanding as of the May 19 meeting.


The Board accepted the paving bid from Heidelberg Materials for $59,735.


The 2012 Ford 750 and box were declared surplus material.


Highway Department Superintendent Tim Proctor said the 1985 Mack truck has a broken frame.


The estimated cost of repair was $13,000.


He planned to check pricing for a 10-wheeler with a plow frame.


The Planning Board is working on a Special Use Permit application and looking at subdivisions.


Board members approved spending up to $7,500 for laptop computers for the Planning Board, ZBA and Supervisor from the ARC grant fund.
