Oriskany Falls Considers Limit On Smoke Shops

The Village of Oriskany Falls is considering a law to limit the number of places that sell cigarettes and vaping materials.
Heather Bernet of Bridges, Madison County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, spoke to the Village Board at the start of last week’s Board meeting.
Bernet explained that the Village of Dolgeville recently put together a law to limit smoke shops in the community.
Mayor Colin Idzi said the Village has three places that sell cigarettes.
Those places would be grandfathered in to any law adopted.
The Board continued the discussion with the Oriskany Falls Fire Department about replacing the fire truck in Knoxboro station.
The plan is to put the truck’s body on a new chassis.
To help in the cost of that, the Barton Trust Fund provided the Village with a grant of $50,000.
OFFD Fire Commissioner Jim Dowd said the department did look into buying a used truck.
Some were too expensive and others would not fit into the Knoxboro
station.
