O’Falls Addresses Parking

Despite painting the curbs, yellow cars continue to parking in prohibited spots near the Oriskany Falls main intersection.


Cars have been parking on the Thrift Store side of the street, which is not allowed, and in spots on the Tallman’s Diner side that are not open for parking.


At the September Board meeting for the Oriskany Falls Village Board, the discussion about this concerned the hazards created when vehicles are parked illegally.


The decision was to paint the curbs yellow to combine with the No Parking signs there.


At last week’s Village Board meeting, DPW Superintendent Geoff Stevens said while the crew was painting the curb, someone parked in the spot being marked.


After some head shaking and discussion, the suggestion was to put cones out to prevent parking in the wrong places.


Also at last week’s meeting, the Board decided to investigate selling the unused reservoir.


Mayor Colin Idzi said the money could then be used for some of the improvements the Board wants to do around the Village.


Board members decided to get an appraisal of the 11 acres to set a fair market price.


Proposed Local Law No. 3 was discussed regarding brush, grass, weeds and lawn maintenance.


If adopted, it will replace a 2008 law.


The draft called for homeowners in violation of grass that was 10 inches or higher.


Board members thought that height was too much and changed it to 6 inches.


Trustee Scott Jeffers said vacant properties will get no leniency. “They can get someone to mow it.’’


The law would also cover backyards and areas that could be a nuisance to neighbors and a haven for bugs and animals.


Those in violation would receive a notice.
