Mustangs Rally For Win

Mount Markham varsity softball rallied from a big deficit to beat Clinton.
Comets pitcher Gracen Grimm opened the game with a third-out strikeout after two force outs.
Leandra Plows reached second on a steal but was stranded.
Two catches, including one by Kyra Piersma, and a strikeout by Abigail Schoonover retired Clinton 1-2-3.
Schoonover smacked a double to center and stole to third, but was stranded on three strikeouts by Grimm.
Grimm singled to start the bottom of the second, but was out at second on a force play on a bunt by Claire Reader.
Two walks loaded the bases for Clinton.
Piersma held the runners with a solid catch in the outfield, and Schoonover got
the next batter on a strikeout, looking to keep Clinton from scoring.
Piersma took the first pitch she saw in the top of the third
and smashed a one-out homer to put the Mustangs on the board.
Grimm, who struck out the first batter, did the same to the third batter.
Plows legged out a single and stole second and third. She was stranded on an out at first.
The Comets came back to tie it in the bottom of the third.
Stephanie True opened with a single.
She moved to third on a bunt by Gretchen Grimm, playing her first game of the season after an injury.
Devyn Roy hit a high single to score True and tie the game.
With runners at first and third, Gracen Grimm smashed a triple to score both runs for a 3-1 Clinton lead.
Reader singled and stole second, and Teagan Tabolt’s walk loaded the bases.
Meadow Rugari worked a walk to bring in a run and keep the bases loaded.
Piersma again came up with a big catch to prevent a base runner and any runners from scoring.
Audrina Kingsley’s single, with the aid of a dropped ball, brought in a run
for a 5-1 score.
True singled in a run and Gretchen Grimm’s walk brought in another for a 7-1
Clinton lead.
Gracen Grimm came up again in the inning with two outs and this time laced a hard hit single for 2 more RBI and a
9-1 lead.
The first Mount Markham runner in the top of the fourth was out at first.
Schoonover singled and stole second.
Mia Graziano bunted in a run and was safe at first to cut the lead to 9-2. Isabella Gifford walked and stole third, with Graziano going to third.
Piersma connected on a long two-out double after another Grimm strikeout to score both runners and make it 9-4.
Grimm struck out the next batter to send Clinton up to bat.
Tabolt opened with a walk, and the next two batters went down on a catch and strikeout.
Anna Harvey singled to move Tabolt, but both were stranded with a force at first.
Mount Markham took advantage of a couple of fielding errors in the top of the
fifth.
Plows reached second with a single that advanced her another base on an error.
Plows scored when Camryn Donley doubled down the third base line to the outfield to make it 9-5.
Donley scored on a single by Alexandria Graziano.
Schoonover singled and ended up on third with two runs brought in with a fielding error ...
