Memorial Day

Area communities have planned ceremonies and parades to observe Memorial Day, May 26.


In Waterville, events begin with a parade at 9 from the Waterville firehouse to Soldiers and Sailors Monument Park.


Matt St. Peter, former Waterville Central School teacher and administrator, is the guest speaker.


Events in Deansboro begin at 10:30 a.m. with the parade followed by a ceremony in Deansboro Cemetery.


Oriskany Falls will kick off with a parade at noon, followed by a ceremony in Douglass Park.


In Clinton, the Memorial Day Parade will start at 9 a.m. at the Oriskany Creek bridge on College Street and proceed to the Village Green.


Ceremonies will include a talk from the guest speaker LTC Andrew Miller (US

Army) and the placing of wreaths on the War Memorials.


Miller serves as the Commander of the 102d Military Police Battalion.


Previously, he was assigned as the Operations Officer for the 272nd Military Police Detachment of the New York Army National Guard.


He is a Clinton resident.


Clark Mills will have ceremonies at nine places in the hamlet and Westmoreland Sunday starting at 5 p.m.


The parade Monday starts at Kirkland Cemetery to the Legion at 11 a.m.


Guest speaker is Sen. Joe Griffo In the Town of Brookfield cemetery events begin at 8 a.m. in Leonardsville, followed by South Brookfield at 8:30, North Brookfield at 9 and a parade in Brookfield at 9:30 a.m.


The Parade in Madison will begin at the school at 11 a.m.
