Liberty Tree Dedication At CCS

The Oneida Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Clinton Middle School students dedicated a Liberty Tree last week to celebrate America 250.

The Clinton High School Chamber Singers sang the National Anthem and Middle School students Hannah Dreier and Nora Magnarelli spoke about the history of the Liberty Tree.

The original Liberty Tree, an elm, was planted in the Boston Common in 1646. It stood as a symbol for the resistence to British rule.

Speakers included Clinton Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo, Kirkland Supervisor Garry Colarusso, State Senator Joe Griffo, Oneida County Historian Alexis Albright and Clinton Historical Society Secretary Joanne Gilles.

CCS Superintendent Chris Clancy and CCS Middle School Principal Amie Johnson helped in the dedication, which moved inside due to rain.

The event coincided with Constitution Day.
