Kirkland Will Update Its Comprehensive Plan

The Town of Kirkland is moving forward on updating its 33-year old Comprehensive Plan.


Sam Gordon of EDR, a Syracuse-based company that helps municipalities with long-range planning, outlined to the Town Board at last week’s meeting the process for the update.


EDR is familiar with the town, Gordon said, through its work on the Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.


Gordon said the process for the Comp Plan will take about 18 months.


“Our job is to listen and organize the surveys and meetings,’’ he said.


All places in the Town will receive information on completing the survey.


In addition, at least two forums will be conducted to gather ideas.


A Steering Committee - in this case the Town’s Planning Board - would review all the feedback collected and with EDR develop the new plan.


“This will help develop future land use and a vision for the town,’’ Gordon said.


The plan would exclude development ideas for the Village of Clinton, although village residents can participate in the process.


The process also includes coordinating the Comp Plan with the Town’s zoning regulations. ...
