Kirkland Plans Summer Work

The Town of Kirkland will schedule its summer roadwork now that the state budget has passed.
At last week’s Kirkland town Board meeting Highway Department Superintendent Jon Scott said two miles of road in the town will be paved.
Another 12 to 15 miles will have maintenance work. The department did work on the Kirkland Trail, including mowing and setting up benches.
Scott said each week the department also mows in five cemeteries.
Brush is being taken to Rome for disposal, he said, because of the time and cost to do it in-house.
Kirkland Police Department Administrative Officer Shawn Occhipinti said the speed trailer has been brought to areas where residents complained of speeding vehicles.
It is also being updated with a solar panel. Councilmember Rick Maxam said SWOCO attended Grievance Day in the Town of Augusta regarding the increase in the property assessment for the landfill.
Supervisor Garry Colarusso proposed an increase in the mileage rate for employees who use their own vehicles for town business travel.
