The Town of Kirkland formally approved joining the Oriskany Creek Basin Commission to address flooding in the town.
Kirkland and so far four other municipalities, including the Village of Clinton, have joined the newly-formed commission. Sixteen municipalities in Oneida and Madison counties could be part of the 31 miles covered by the creek.
Joining the commission will allow a more united effort in fixing problems caused by the creek and its tributaries as well as finding funding to pay for the solutions.
Meelan said the flooding issues go back decades and people should not expect results for some time.
