Ideas Given For Development In Clark Mills

To best address concerns and projects for improvement in Clark Mills, forming a committee is the first step.

Amanda Whalen of Mohawk Valley Economic Development District attended last week’s Kirkland Town Board meeting at the Kirkland Senior Center in Clark Mills. Whalen’s visit was a follow-up to a visit she and the agency made in the Summer that included a community discussion and walk-about.

The Clinton Kirkland Improvement Corp sponsored Whalen’s visit. Whalen said that visit marked the biggest community turnout MVEDD has seen at one of their visits. Whalen said MVEDD can provide support in a number of ways, including with grants, identifying projects and technical assistance.

The agency can also help gather project quotes and coordinate with contractors. It also helps with loans and bridge financing.

Whalen recommended creation of a Hamlet Committee.

This group would work with the Town Board to coordinate projects and development.

“We will help in any way you want,’’ she said, adding MVEDD does not charge municipalities for this work.

The meeting opened with Lorraine Kinney-Kitchen reading and presenting a proclamation to the Town Board for coming to Clark Mills and addressing the issues brought out at the meetings.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente declared Sept. 21 as Clark Mills Community Engagement Day.

Jim Wright of Fountain Street said he asked for speed enforcement on his street and it has worked to slow down drivers.

In response to a question about the possible projects for the area’s Waste Water Treatment Plant, Colarusso said he personally is not in favor of a regional hub.
