Historical Society Goes To Zoom

The Greater Winfield Historical Society will start using Zoom for their monthly meetings and presentations.

Zoom is a wonderful tool whereby anyone with an Internet connection is able to join a meeting online no matter their location using a phone, computer, tablet, etc.

GWHS Co-President Gene Doremus will send a Zoom link via an email message prior to each event. Simply click on the link at the appointed time; be patient sometimes it takes a few minutes to load.

You’ll be able to watch, listen and participate in our gatherings!

We’ve also decided to separate our GWHS business meetings from our presentations.

Business meetings will now take place via Zoom on the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m. Members and friends of GWHS will receive an email the Wednesday before each meeting, which will include the Zoom link.

Want to be added to our email list? Send an email to: gene.doremus@startmail.com.

GWHS presentations will be a hybrid event, meaning you can attend live or on Zoom.

The presentations will take place on the second Monday of each month, 1 p.m. at the West Winfield Library. Join us in person or via Zoom.

A week prior to the presentation an article containing details about the presenter and their program will be in the West Winfield Star. An email announcement will also be sent.

If you will not be able to attend the presentation live or on Zoom, a recording will be available.

This is an exciting change! An opportunity for more people to plug into the Greater Winfield Historical Society news and stories from our corner of the world.

But we are flexible. There may be instances when a mid-day presentation is unworkable. Maybe the speaker is unavailable, or it’s a busy three-day holiday weekend.

Changes to this new schedule may occur from time-to-time.

Mark your calendars for the next GWHS meeting Monday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.

Our next presentation is Monday, March 14 ‘Remembering Marcia (Marca) Bristo” by Gail Smith (sister of Marcia).

March is Women’s History Month; here is an opportunity to learn about a West Winfield woman who has made her mark in history.

Marcia Bristo has, quite literally, changed the world! Plan to attend this presentation.

Did you know the FDR Memorial in Washington DC has a statue of FDR in his wheelchair?

Did you know the original plans for the memorial did not include this sculpture?

Did you know it was Marcia Bristo who convinced the creators of the museum to include the sculpture?

There is so much more to know about Marcia. Her contributions to our world are quite remarkable.
