Helps Asked For Sink Hole Issue

Waterville village officials have asked Assemblyman John Salka for help resolving the sinkhole in front of Schoolhouse Apartments.

Mayor Gene Ostrander said at last week’s Village Board meeting that Salka said he would help bring the Department of Transportation back into the discussions. Ostrander said Schoolhouse owners are not getting any responses from the DOT in fixing the hole.

The Halloween 2019 storm created the 30-foot deep hole off the driveway of the apartment building when the creek underneath the road and driveway washed away the foundation. The hole remains, although it is fenced in.

Also during the Board’s 25-minute meeting, Codes Officer Whitey Brown said he has inspected three apartment buildings owned by Dave Sullivan and Schoolhouse. Both are updating smoke alarms to comply with new codes.
