Waterville senior Gabe Williams ended his golfing career for the Indians by winning the Federation Tournament Sunday at Bethpage's Black Course on Long Island. His one over par 72 was three strokes ahead of the second-place finisher out of the 24 golfers from public, private, Catholic and New York City schools who qualified. Williams finished fifth at the public schools tournament, the only Section Three golfer to advance. To tune up for that, he and Waterville golfer Gavin Poyer (the two are cousins) defended their title in the Center State Conference Two-Person Team Championship by 13 strokes. Williams and Poyer first won this in 2019 as ninth and eighth graders and were not able to defend it until this year due to Covid. Waterville sophomores Connor Stanton and Logan Baker qualified as individuals to compete in the CSC tournament. As a team their 165 would have tied with Hamilton and Clinton for second place.
