Former County Legislator Passes Away

Edward Carter Stephenson of Waterville, who served on the Oneida County Board of Legislators for 10 years, passed away last week at age 81.

Stephenson, a Democrat, represented the area on the county board after he served as supervisor of the Town of Marshall. He and his wife of 65 years, Joan, raised six children who graduated through Waterville Central School.

During his time as a county legislator, Stephenson kept tabs on the Southwestern Oneida County landfill situation in Knoxboro and pushed for more county services and representation in rural areas of the county.

Stephenson was born in North Carolina, where he grew up known as his middle name, Carter. He relocated to this area when serving in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Griffiss Air Base.
