Flooding Work Continues

The next phase of mitigating flooding in the Village of Waterville will begin along Big Creek.


Village DPW Superintendent Jamie Bechy told Village Board members at last week’s meeting that the next phase of the project will run from behind Stewart’s Shop to the village line past the Wastewater Treatment Plant.


The state Department of Environmental Conservation is providing financial assistance, as is Oneida County.


The County and Village have a total contribution of $136,179.


A resident of East Bacon Street asked about help with flooding on the street during a large rain storm.


She said her cellar floods because the drains to catch water get clogged and back up the water into driveways.


Bechy said the unusually heavy rain events overwhelm the drains.


Board members discussed the issue with the woman.


Codes Officer Ben Bialek will examine her cellar to see if there are solutions to keeping the water from getting in.


Another village resident had a question on her tax bill, which she said went up 40 percent from last year.


This was the first year the Village raised taxes since 2008. ...
