When Adolf Ptak’s plane went down off the coast of Florida during a training mission, his Clark Mills family knew they had lost one of their sons and brothers.
Ptak, known as Ad, (pronounced Odd) died in July 1945 while flying a training flight for the U.S. Navy off the east coast of Florida.
He crashed close to shore when the instrument panel blacked out during his night flight. He was 22.
Wade Lallier of Deansboro spoke to the Clark Mills Historical Society recently about this Son of Clark Mills, which is also the name of the book Lallier did on what happened after Ptak crashed.
His family spent decades trying to get the military to recover his body but had no luck in doing so.
Adolf and his brother Stan played on the Clinton High School football teams in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
