The Village of West Winfield seeks EMTs, paramedics and drivers to staff emergency response teams to provide full- time coverage for the area.
West Winfield Mayor Sandy Smith said so far enough people have signed up for the paid positions that fewer calls are being turned over to other agencies.
The Village agreed to pay for the positions in the absence of a local agency able to handle the medical calls.
The West Winfield Fire Department has provided room in its firehouse for people to staff their shifts, especially the midnight to 6 a.m. one.
That overnight continues to be the toughest time to find people, Smith said. During other shifts people can respond from their homes if within a few miles of the firehouse.
Drivers respond per call. To learn more about the positions,
call the Village Office at 315- 822-3051.
The Village continues to work with the state’s DEC Climate Smart Communities program. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by environmentally smart actions.
Residents can sign up through Community Solar to save up to 10 percent on their electricity bills each month.
The Village also saves when residents participate.
So far seven homes have signed up. If three more do the Village is eligible for an Action grant.
In the Village’s latest newsletter, a reminder is given to car owners that no parking is enforced on all roads in the village from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Village elections are Tuesday, March 19 at Bisby Hall from 12 to 9 p.m.
Two trustee spots are on the ballot.
