Eight-Man Game Brings Changes

With Waterville and Clinton varsity football teams joining the eight-man version of the game this fall, much will look the same.


Players still try to get a touchdown in the other team’s endzone. The field will still be 100 yards, but it’s narrower.


A touchdown is still six points. Teams that qualify will play for a Section Three title and now a state title.


New York state offered an eight-man version in 2017 for those schools with small enrollments. About 40 years before eight-man was played in some rural sections of the state.
