On Earth Day April 22, 18 students and two advisors from Mount Markham Central School District demonstrated their commitment to the environment and their communities by cleaning of a creek running along the length of Route 20 in Bridgewater. This stream has been the source of flooding with debris and trash exacerbating the problem. Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Raymond, and the students from Agriculture, Forestry, & Natural Resources, Environmental Science classes, and the Envirothon team walked along the bankside removing debris including tires, plastic, scrap metal, and any other items safe to extract. Students worked alongside Oneida County Soil and Water Conservation District representatives and learned about an in-progress project to re-
route fingers of the creek towards a single stream, reducing the amount and impact of flooding. Students also had the opportunity to meet Oneida County Legislator Mary Pratt. Doing the cleanup were Sam Hinman, Mya Hoke, Grace Assisi, Virginia Culver, Owen Allen, Kyle Young, Cole Piechowicz, Doug Doremus, Ben Shaw, Logan Eck, Adam Louis, Josh Bowee, Casmere Lanaux, Adam Miller, Brenton Clark, Kihana Eccleston, Zander Tardy.
