Eagles Win Class C!

For the fifth time in Waterville boys basketball history, the team took home a Section Three Class C banner.

The 2024 version came Friday night with a win over Hamilton at Onondaga Community College. Waterville’s others titles came in 1965, 2002, 2014 and 2015.

Waterville will play for the Regional title and a spot in the State Final Four. In 2014 WCS played in the semifinal and in 2015 played in the championship game, losing on a last-second shot by Lake George.

The game is set for Onondaga Community College Saturday, March 10. The Eagles take on the Blue Devils of Moravia, who won the Section Four title last weekend 49-42 with a big rally over Delhi.

Moravia didn’t take the lead until the fourth quarter.

Four players scored for the Blue Devils in the win.

Moravia comes into the game at 20-3, having gone 13- 0 in their league.

They are on a 19-game win streak and have won back-to-back Section Four titles.

Last year they beat Dolgeville to advance to the Final Four, where they lost in the semifinal to state champ Randolph.

Waterville and Moravia had no common opponents this season. The Blue Devils roster shows nine of their 13 players ranging from 6’0’’ to 6’4’’.

The winner Saturday moves on to Glens Falls for the Final Four at Cool Insuring Arena.

The Class C semifinal games are Friday, March 15 at 7 and 8:45 p.m.; Section Three plays in the later game.

The Class C championship game is Saturday, March 16 at 8:45 p.m.
