Creek Work Begins In Bridgewater On Rte. 20

Work to prevent heavy rains flooding the creek begins this week in the Town of Bridgewater.


At the September meeting, Town Supervisor Dale DeKing said she was notified earlier that day that a company in Camden was awarded the bid.


Work will be done to reroute the creek on the Route 20 eastbound side.


Board members opened their meeting by declaring two special days in the town for September. On the 21st it was CNY BMX Day in honor of their 25 years, and Sept. 15 was Bridgewater Congregational Church Day in honor of their 225th anniversary.


DeKing pointed out that the church’s first minister, James Southworth, eas a descendant of the town’s Highway Superintendent, also named James Southworth.


Planning Board Chairman Destinee Davis talked about a grant for outdoor spaces. She said she would form a committee to look into applying for it next month for a walking trail in the Town Park.


The Planning Board also reviewed information from the new owners of the former Dairy Bar.


Their plan is to turn the former restaurant into an AirBnB rental.


Southworth said he had a question from the new owners about extending the town’s sidewalk to the building.


DeKing said there was not money in the budget for that.


Jerry Perry said the water use is still running high in the town.


He said he had an idea there was a big leak in the system near the Dairy Bar under Route 20.


Bridgewater Fire Chief Bill DeKing said the department responded to 44 calls in August.


Of those 38 were for the ambulance and five for fire.


Councilman Mike Pcola said the first phase of the project on the four corners is design and that is underway.


Funding will come from Oneida County’s Main Street program.


Councilman Chris Haar asked for a price on eight signs to be put out on Routes 8 and 20.


Paving began on East Street to blacktop the street.
