Clinton Village Green Project Moves To 2027

The Village of Clinton shared a positive progress update on the Downtown Revitalization Initiative Village Green Project.

Changes to the Village Green are part of the $10 million DRI award the village and Town of Kirkland received in 2023.

A required traffic study — evaluating proposed improvements such as the closure of North Park Row (in front of Lumbard Hall) and the conversion of East and West Park Row to two-way traffic — has been completed and is under DOT review.

Early indications are encouraging, with no anticipated barriers to project continuation.

Formal confirmation is expected in April.

The Green will remain fully available for community events through October.

A revised schematic design will be shared by EDR at the end of April, followed by a Citizen Committee meeting in early May.

This session will help shape the next phase of work and refine the final plan's priorities. Following design development and final material selections — including lighting, landscaping, and signage — the project will move into bidding, with a single contractor leading construction.

Work is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027 and is expected to take approximately four months.

This timeline enables planning for alternative event locations, if needed. The Citizen Committee, Clinton Historic Preservation Commission and other stakeholders will continue to play an active role in shaping the project.

At the May meeting, the Village will also present findings from parking analysis conducted with DOS, which will support a balanced and accessible final design.

The complete project plan is expected by early Fall of this year.

“This additional time strengthens our ability to deliver a Village Green that is not only beautiful, but enduring and responsive to how our community gathers, moves, and grows,” said Mayor Elizabeth C. Tantillo.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to follow as the project progresses.
