Clinton Thanks Retiring Village Board Member

In 1998 Tom Firsching and his young family moved to Clinton, finding a house on Fountain Street.
A few years later, Firsching attended a Clinton Village Board meeting.
He had concerns about speeding on his street.
His appearance generated a phone call from Board member John Crossley, who asked Firsching to serve on a new committee to look at speeding in the village.
Firsching said yes.
He said yes again in 2006 when Crossley asked him to fill a vacancy on the Clinton Historical Preservation Committee.
Firsching said yes again when Crossley called a third time to ask Firsching to serve on the Village Board.
For the past 24 years Firsching served as a Village trustee, learning about wastewater, public works and yes, speeding issues in Clinton.
This week, Firsching’s name will not appear on the ballot for village elections.
After serving seven terms, he decided to step away as trustee.
His last meeting in that role came last week at the monthly Clinton Village Board meeting.
The occasion came with a Proclamation by Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo declaring March 31 Tom Firsching Day.
Guests included former mayors Steve Bellona and John Crossley and former Trustee Carrie Evans.
