Clinton Participates In State Science Challenge

When they didn’t hear their name called for fourth place, the Clinton Central School Science Olympiad team experienced a bit of worry.


When it wasn’t called for third place, that worry cranked up a lot.


“We were sure we didn’t make it,’’ said senior Jack Wratten.


That fear of missing out lasted just long enough for the second place announcement, which earned Clinton their highest ever spot in the Science Olympiad Regional and propelled them to their eighth straight trip to the state Olympiad Tournament.


“We thought we did well,’’ senior Gavin Van Slyke said, “but we’ve never beaten Jamesville-Dewitt.’’


First in the Central New York regionals was Fayetteville-Manlius, then Clinton, J-D and the F-M B team.


Because F-M could only send one team, that second spot went to Fabius-Pompey.


“We all got nervous,’’ Wratten said. “We looked at each other and thought, uh oh.’’


This year’s senior group said they felt the pressure to keep up the legacy of making the state tournament.
