At the Clinton Village Board meeting last week, board members approved having the Village spend the money for extra services beyond what the Kirkland Police Department provides.

Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo said as of Jan. 1, the Village had stopped paying KPD for services other than what the rest of the Town receives.

Tantillo said the Village had been in discussions with Oneida County for a while.

While KPD will still provide the same level of support and services as for the rest of the Town, the Village will have enhanced coverage on weekends and as needed.

Tantillo said KPD was unable to provide those dedicated services anymore.

“The county has agreed to respond to our concerns and provide a physical police presence in more obvious ways,’’ she said.

The Sheriff’s Office will provide monthly reports to the Village.

Tantillo said she requested that she be notified when there are major incidents in the Village.

They will have a place in the Village Hall to do paperwork, the mayor said.

“We hope to see them here every day,’’ Tantillo said. ...
