Clinton Considers Fines

To halt abuses in the village’s waste pick-up system, the Village of Clinton is considering fining chronic misusers.


A public hearing has been set for the Village Board’s next meeting Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.


At last week’s Village Board meeting, Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo said the Village’s current policy does not offer the ability to fine persistent violators.


Tantillio said while it’s a few of the village utility users not following the rules, those people routinely do so.


The regulations not being followed:


*Garbage is put out on the street before 5 p.m. Mondays


*Green waste is put out before 5 p.m. Fridays for the Monday pickup


*Trash—anything that is not put out in the weekly garbage pickup—is put out before 5 p.m. Tuesday before the last Wednesday of the month.


Tantillio said in the last year she’s heard many complaints from downtown merchants about other merchants who put their garbage out too soon.


“We’ve spoken with the chronic violators over and over,’’ Tantillo said about those on West Park Row and College Street. ...
