Clinton Board Says Nothing Set For Plant

At last week’s Clinton Village Board meeting, the majority of the 90 minutes focused on clearing up misinformation spread about the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The plant, owned and operated by the Village in a partnership with the Town of Kirkland and Hamilton College, will need upgrades in the next few years.

Village Engineer Tim O’Hara was hired to explore options for the upgrades and take into consideration cost to the three entities and taxpayers.

In the Spring O’Hara presented an option to explore having the Clinton plant become a regional hub to take in biosolids from other communities for treatment.

Doing so would provide revenue that could be used for the upgrades needed.

O’Hara and Village Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo are representing the stakeholders of the plant with Estian Partners Management, a company formed in April to look at revenue-producing ideas for wastewater plants.

In the absence of Tantillo at the meeting, Deputy Mayor Howard Schaffer ran the session.

After the Board approved a transfer of $40,000 to cover the cost of a parking study for the downtown area, Schaffer opened the public comment portion.
