Clayville Library Marks 100 Years

The Clayville Library Association is marking its 100th anniversary this August with free daily giveaways, weekly basket raffles, musical and children’s entertainment performances.

All are free and open to the community.

Opened in a single room in the Clayville Opera House Aug. 30, 1926 with 76 books, the Clayville Library has grown to serve more than 4,000 residents in the Town of Paris.

The Library offers tens of thousands of books, as well as DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, museum passes, summer reading programs and adult programming.

The library also provides community resources such as Durable Medical Equipment, sports equipment, Notary services and hosts student tutoring sessions in conjunction with Sauquoit Valley Friends and Neighbors.

The Clayville Library will post a schedule of events as well as weekly updates on giveaways and raffles on its social media sites.

What began as a study club of 40 local women has now evolved into one of the fastest-growing small libraries in the Mid York Library System.

“We are so excited to be celebrating the Clayville Library's 100th anniversary. For our centennial, we hope to show the Clayville Library community our appreciation for the past 100 years of patronage.

“In celebrating our deep connection with our community through the last century, we also look forward to the next century of service” said Jacob Cahalan, Clayville Library Director.
