Waterville High School’s golf team ended the season by defending their Section Three Small School team title and wrapping up their second year in a row of going undefeated. The Indians shot a team combined 426, which was the lowest score of the tournament at Cedar Lake. Waterville was led by junior Gavin Poyer, whose 73 one over par was the highest score of all golfers. Senior Gabe Williams took second in the Small Schools tournament with a 79 and sophomore Connor Stanton was third with an 82. All three qualified for the state tournament qualifier at Skenandoa later in the week. Williams tied for seventh and as one of nine golfers representing Section Three in the state tournament, becomes the first Waterville golfer to do so in at least 20 years. The Indians also beat Mount Markham in a regular-season match to finish 10-0, extending their winning streak to 24. Members of the team: Assistant Coach Dave Poyer, Gavin Poyer, Gabe Williams, Joe Hinman, Jackson Ruane, Logan Baker, Assistant Coach Shannon Ruane, Connor Stanton and Coach Bob Gray.
