The Town of Kirkland will look at defining two areas where cannabis shops can set up.
At last week’s Kirkland Town Board meeting, Town Attorney Anthony Hallak said there is renewed interest in cannabis establishments in the Town.
Discussions earlier this year looked at restrictions on the maximum size of the lot and where the store could go.
Kirkland defined two zones.
One is along Route 5 on the Byrne Dairy side to the New Hartford town line, and the other is on Route 12B on the east side to the Marshall line.
Hallak said the idea with the regulations is to keep the establishments small and away from residential areas.
The Board will discuss the requirements at the next meeting Nov. 24.
Also during the short meeting, a resident of Kellogg Street asked for police presence to address speeding.
Town Supervisor Bob Meelan said he would see if the speed trailer can be set up there.
Budget Director Tony Arcuri asked the Board to make some adjustments on the 2026 budget summary sheet that were approved.
After the public session, Board members met with Hallak in executive session to discuss pending litigation.
