Slowly, the Town of Brookfield is replacing its Highway Department trucks with different models.

The Town has spent thousands of dollars on repairs for all of them over the years.
“They’ve been nothing but problems,’’ Corbin said.
Two 2014 International pickup trucks were part of what Brookfield sent to auction recently with other Highway equipment.
The entire sale netted $38,360.
Corbin said the Town fleet now has three Macks, one Freightliner and two remaining Internationals.
He said the Town can get rid of one of the Internationals since the 2025 Freightliner ordered will arrive in January or later once the plow is put on.
Another new truck has been ordered, but it’s not known when the Town will receive it.
That cost is $325,000.
With state Highway funds, the Town has worked on 1.5 miles of Doyle Road.
This year the town budget contained another $50,000 in road repairs and a number of roads have been worked on this summer.
Corbin said in light of two employees of the Highway Department who recently left for better paying jobs, perhaps it is time to talk to the Highway Department union about increasing the starting wage.
The Town will apply for a grant in a program will provide LED lights for free for the Town Hall, Brookfield Park and Highway garage.
