Brookfield Replaces Superintendent

Brookfield Central School has replaced its superintendent and will begin the search for someone new to lead the District.


The five members of the BCS Board of Education had a special meeting Friday night.


During the 18-minute session, attended by about 25 people, the Board approved two resolutions.


The first one said that Superintendent Ron Pavlus and the District reached a separation agreement where both parties agreed he would resign and all claims against each other have been resolved.


The resolution said Pavlus, who was in the building through Friday, would be done as superintendent at midnight Oct. 19.


The second resolution appointed Ron Wheelock, who was superintendent at Sauquoit Valley Central School for 14 years until he retired, as the interim superintendent at Brookfield.


Wheelock became superintendent as of Monday, Oct. 20.


No end date was given for the appointment. Board members--who have spent hours in executive sessions over the past month--had no discussion before voting 5-0 on both matters.


Board President Bernie Whitacre read a statement prior to the voting, saying being a member of the Board of Education calls for difference services, including difficult decisions.


“This evening is one of those times,’’ he said.


After the votes, Whitacre read another statement. He said the Board thanked Pavlus for his time with the District and welcomed Wheelock into a collective partnership to move forward.


Whitacre said the Board will begin the process of a superintendent search and will welcome the community to become involved.


Over the coming months there will be ways provided to do that, he said. Pavlus started as superintendent at BCS in July 2023.


He had served the previous year as Building Principal and prior to that taught third grade for 20 years at BCS.


He replaced Jim Plows, who had been superintendent for eight years. When the Board formally approved Pavlus in July 2023, the contract ran through June 2026.
